Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare
With the United States Supreme Court upholding the heart of the Obamacare legislation, President Obama has earned a huge political victory going into this fall's general election. Surprising conservatives, Chief Justice John Roberts in writing the decision, agreed with the president`s premise in upholding the mandate of of the law, which requires all Americans to
have health insurance or face a federal fine. Surprising, in that the law is still unpopular with a majority of Americans that saw the forcing of people to purchase insurance or face federally-imposed fines.
Although Roberts agreed with Obama on the insurance mandate, he disagreed with the president about the mandate falling under Congress' power to regulate interstate commerce and said it could be considered a tax. If so, it could be the largest tax increase in American history.
For his part, Mitt Romney has said if he becomes president, he will repeal the overhaul law, calling the changes in the system a "bad law."
