Facism Reigns Supreme in Concord, NC

Although there are kiosks selling pro Obama items in this Concord, NC mall, one selling anti-Obama items will not be allowed to sell anything after July. This is after one patron to the mall found it "offensive," "bigoted" and "racist" and wrote a letter to the editor of the Charlotte Observer.

Reports say there are bumper stickers and the like that "appear" to condone Confederacy, racism, sexism and slavery. And while (other than the Confederacy items) those cannot be condoned, there is something to be said about freedom of speech and ideas. There are websites that sell pro-conservative T-shirts, are those to be outlawed as well? Items such as these that mocked President Bush were never attacked. If people don't like them or don't agree with them, they simply won't sell and the propreiter will have to change his stock if they want to stay in business. If they do sell in a free market society, who has the right to close it down? If someone were to find offense with a pro-Obama kiosk, would anybody listen, much less take action? We all know the tired answer to that. It just shows where the bias and hypocrisy lies.

This is really disturbing. I have kind of a similar experience. For the innauguration, someone at my work planned an "Obama watching party" using one of the conference rooms and TVs in the conf. room. But the policy is that you can't use those things for anything other than a business need. The person who planned the party was in upper-management and sent an official invitation to the entire group to either accept or decline. I didn't want to respond because I didn't want that upper management person to judge me if I did or didn't attend, and that it could affect my work.

I talked to HR about it and the HR rep said "this is a historic event that the world will be watching. There is nothing wrong with using the business resources for this." That's actually what she said! And she's in HR! I asked her if McCain/Palin won would we be able to do the same thing and she said no, because it wasn't an historical event like this is.

Yep. Not surprising though, is it? Like I said, I don't condone the racist, sexist stuff (assuming it's true) but it is a free market (unless you're GM) but it reminds me of the story of how a guy was pulled over by the state police because he was suspected of being a "right-wing extremist" for having a "Don't tread on me" bumper sticker.

I'm sure if Palin was actually running against Obama for the presidency and she won. It would be an historical event.
First woman president! Actually let's say Hilary won. Would you have RSVP the invite?
Would you have watched it then Adrienne?
And why wouldn't you want to witness history Adrienne?

First thing. Impeach Obama? He hasn't done anything wrong yet that the collective is angry about. Second. Al-qaeda's two favorite days. 9/11 and 11/04. Are you serious??!!! Can these idiots stop associating Obama with Al-Qaeda terrorists! I'm getting quite sick of it! You know what? I'm actually not happy that he became President anymore. Why?

Because of the constant insults of him being part of a sick, ignorant group of people who should be wiped off the face of the earth!

Obama is by far a better man then those savages will ever be! Knock it off!!!!!!!

One more thing. I'm just going to put this in a different perspective.

Clinton: A womanizer, sex fiend, horny old bastard.

Bush Jr: Unintelligent.

Obama: Terrorist lover.

Now the first two are the major jokes about them. Why? It's because of what they did, or might of said during their presidency. But it's based on something they have done or said. It's not an attack on there ethnicity, or background, or middle name. Associating Obama with terrorists is an attack on his ethnicity and and background. Now what does that usually mean when that happens?

To attack someone so quickly and they haven't been in office for a year. Attack his character, or what stupid thing might have done.

And what do you mean if it's true? Al-qeada's favorite day? 11/04. Come on???

These are not my comments. I don't know why you're going off on me for. This was a thread about freedom of speech and the free market, or moreover the hypocrisy of Bush haters v.s Obama lovers in "bumper sticker" form.

I have never said the current president is a terrorist. I have said he is enabling their actions by giving them habeas corpus and the like. And there is definitive proof that he is not only friends with a domestic terrorist (Ayres) but that the terrorist in question admitted that Obama lied about knowing him. He was way more than just "a guy in my neighborhood." His political careeer started in the man's living room for God's sake! Associating Obama with terrorists (albeit domestic ones) is not an attack on his ethnicity, it's an attack on his credibility and judgement. It always has been. You seem to be attacking comments or beliefs that aren't there.

And what I meant by "if it's true" was the accusation of this person selling racist or sexist items.

Anarchist,

No, I would not have RSVP'd to Sarah Palin party or a Hillary party at work. My point was the guy who set it up was in upper management and I didn't want him judging me based on my political views when it came time for a promotion or raise. You asked why wouldn't I want to witness history? I do and I did - just not at work. That was the point. I watched Obama's innaguration at home after work because I recorded it.

I never said anything about impeaching Obama. I would never suggest that, and I've never seen that mentioned here ever. The other stuff you mentioned I have no idea what you're talking about.

Ok. Listen. Northern Exposure posted this blog right? Right! And in this blog there is link. In this link is a video clip of the guy who was banned from the mall and it showed the context for which he was banned. Bumper stickers saying Al Qeada's favorite two days are 9/11 and 11/04. Not once did I accuse any of you making these statments. I was simply talking in general on how SOME people associate him with terrorists. It was on those bumper stickers that guy was selling. And another one was Impeach Obama.

Fair enough. But you did make it sound like you were personally chastising me for someone else's comments and/or business practices. But take heart, we do agree on one thing:

"...a sick, ignorant group of people who should be wiped off the face of the earth!

By the way, I think you're missing the point. Do you believe that this person's business should be shut down because some people disagree with what he's selling? You may not like or agree with the product, but does that mean they don't have a right to sell it?

No they have a right, but within reason. Like if he had bumper stickers against the health care reform, or attack those idiotic democrats. But when you say Al-Qeada's favorite two days are 9/11 and 4/11. That is without a question referring to his background. Even the little baby shirt they showed.

The impeach Obama one? Meh. That's at least tasteful. I'm all about freedom of speech, but remember with freedom of speech comes consequence. We've all seen it through history. Everyone paid some price for speaking out.

Just don't attack his ethnicity, or his background. Judge his character. Judge what he will do or has done. Some of these ding dongs need to get off the Terrorist/Obama wagon.

For sure I agree with that. If there was any other content that was banned I would probably voice my opinion on it. From Gay rights to pro choice. I hate when those Southern Baptist ding dong's protest stupid stuff like Harry Potter movies, or take books out of schools because they disapprove of it's content. However there is a very thin line on what you can stand against and voice your opinion. Ethinicity or race will always be touchy given it's history. People unfortunately are still sensitive when it comes to that.
