Mulroney Violated Ethics Code

Canadian federal inquiry judge, Justice Jeffery Oliphant concluded former Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney "broke his own ethics code," in the Karlheinz Schreiber debacle. However, no laws were broken or illegalities performed while he held the highest office in Canada.

This one hurts. I like and support Mulroney. This really doesn't diminish the fact that Schreiber is a criminal and a felon in Germany, but this doesn't bode well for my defence of the former PM. I have to concede that he pretty much enrolled in the school of "do as I say, not as I do," mentality. For shame.

Also, as stated within the article "Oliphant's findings have already spurred renewed opposition calls for the government to move to recover the $2.1 million Mulroney got in an out-of-court settlement of a libel suit over allegations he had received millions of dollars in kickbacks in the so-called Airbus affair."

Mulroney was already exonerated for those alleged dealings and was found not only to be "not guilty," but totally innocent in the Airbus affair. So, even though Canada has no such "double jeopardy" laws, I can't see anyone recouping $2.1 million Mulroney received out of court in the libel suit. But they're guaranteed to try.
