Chalk One Up for the Good Guys
So, ha-ha, wanna-be, Dictator for Life, Hugo Chavez's first attempt to get a firm grasp on the throats around the people of Venezuela and choke the freedom out of them forever has failed. The problem is, not by much. He only lost by three percentage points in the national referendum, which invariably means he'll be back for another stab at the cat.
Chavez said that Sunday's balloting had taught him that "Venezuelan democracy is maturing." and that his "respect" for the verdict proves he is a true democratic leader. That is of course, when he's not shutting down dissenting radio and television stations or imprisoning any right-wing activists when they publicly denounce his vying for a purely socialist state.
Chavez's detractors were jubilant.
"This reform was about democracy or totalitarian socialism, and democracy won," said opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez said.
"At least now we have the guarantee that Chavez will leave power," said Valeria Aguirre, a 22-year-old student who had braved tear gas during street protests.
Lucena, the electoral agency chief, called the vote "the calmest we've had in the last 10 years."
After the referendum tallies had been counted and their was no doubt about his loss, the magnanimous Ahmadinejad wanna-be actually said
"From this moment on, let's be calm, There is no dictatorship here."
I guess when someone asked him to take a look in the mirror, he must have and got stuck there. That's how everything is backwards in his world, yet looks all the same to him and his cronies. You know the ones. They say they're proud Americans, yet do and say whatever they can do undermine the soldiers and leaders that give them the way of life they have become accustomed to so that they can make millions, then give it to the enemy; along with their naive, uneducated, retooling of history that serves our enemies well, at home as well as abroad.
