Yeeah, Not a Good Idea
So President Bush wants to hand out $150 billion in taxpayer money in an attempt to stimulate the economy in light of the housing shortage ( I balk at actually calling it a "crisis") rising gas prices (get used to that folks) under the title of Economic Stimulus Package.
The rebates will depend on your actual annual income. Here it is in a nutshell. Great. Excellent. a pretty good idea to wars off what looks like an oncoming recession, right?
Well, maybe not.
First off, the simple fact that both Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are all smiles about this should immediately raise red flags.
Second, along with the media's help, these three have most people convinced that this is "free money" with no strings attached.
With the country already in a huge debt, handing out $100 billion to individuals and families and $50 billion to businesses, what Bush and his "friends of the moment" are doing is borrowing against the debt and taking money out of the pockets of America's children and their economic future. This, with social security already teetering on the brink. Doing this while smiling like the cat who just swallowed the canary along with of all people Pelosi and Reid? Not very conservative-like, huh?
Plus, not everybody who pays taxes will recieve a rebate. Even worse, lots of lucky stiffs who don't even pay taxes will also recieve a gift. Undoubtedly, a lot of lucky recipients will recieve more than they deserve, even if they did file.
This puts me in the frame of mind about the so-called "free" Canadian health care system. except that you usually have to pay a co-payment, wait up to eight hours to see the triage nurse, never mind a doctor. That is after you wade through every single family member that some immigrant brouight with him or her because I guess they want the whole family to see what "free" healthcare looks like, something I assume they have never had or seen.
Anyways, Mr. President; bad idea.
